The aim of the Year 7 program is for students to build relationships within their year level, introduce a solid foundation of outdoor skills and develop a connection with the natural environment. Exodus is a multi-activity program designed to introduce students to a range of outdoor activities and experiences. It gives the students the opportunity to get to know other students in their House, learn basic camping skills and develop responsibility for self, whilst enjoying their experiences in the outdoors. The program involves a stand-up paddle boarding session, hiking in a coastal venue, canoeing and raft building. Accommodation is in tents for 3 nights and under tarpaulins for 1 night.
Welcome to the Year 6 iTeam Outdoor Education program which is highly valued as a compulsory part of the curriculum at St Michael’s Grammar School. These two single-day events are the first part of the Year 6 Outdoor Education sequence, and focus on “Teamwork and Leadership”. The second experience in Term 2 is a five day Exodus at Marysville and The Cathedral Range State Park. During the two, one day iTeam programs students will learn about “Habits of Mind”, a framework for understanding different ways of thinking and doing, and then work in teams to achieve set tasks. Students will be in their class groups and will spend two days working together as a team and completing initiative games.
In Term 2 the Year 6 students venture to Marysville for their week long Exodus, the focus of which is, personal challenge and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Over the course of this program students will be encouraged to take on social, cognitive and physical challenges personally and in a group context. They will then be encouraged to reflect upon these challenges and apply them to everyday life in preparation for their transition to the Senior School. The Year 6 Exodus program is a compulsory part of the School’s educational program. The students will be involved in food preparation in an outdoor setting and participate in a range of activities
